After my comparison posts, I get a lot of people asking which subscription box is our favorite. After my last comparison post, I promised to reveal our top 3 subscription boxes. I subscribed to Barkbox last Dec and continued it for 3 months. I have a chihuahua who loves treats, but I don’t feed her treats in such large quantities. My boxes always included some sort of sausage bar which she loved, about 2-3 large bags of treats and 1-2 toys. The treats were too much; in fact, we still have a few bags despite cancelling a few months ago. The “squeaky” toys were ok, but they were pretty cheap and didn’t last. For the monthly cost of the box, “we” were better off saving the $$$ and applying it to better toys and treats in smaller quantities. I can see this box being better for consumers with larger pets since they eat much more than a chihuahua. Every 5 lbs a dog gains is equivalent to a human gaining 20!! If we fed our beloved pet “all” the treats they were sending, she’d turn into a chunky monkey and it would be very unhealthy for her. So, the box, in my humble opinion, is better for larger dogs who can eat more treats with less repercussions.
As a direct result of that feedback, BarkBox has implemented a new shipping upgrade program, which gives at-risk customers special incentives to put them back in the green. For every poor rating or dissatisfied review they receive, the BarkBox Happy Team reaches out directly to see how they can improve future deliveries for the customer. “Now it’s within our power to do something when customers are dissatisfied, whereas before we were essentially in the dark,” Snowden says. “It’s another touchpoint with our customers that we didn’t have before.”
Claire's and Emmy's thoughts: First off, every one of these boxes helps other dogs in need, which is just so incredibly awesome and something you can feel good about. Barkbox donates 10% of profits to different shelters and rescues in the US and Canada; Dapper Dog donates $1 per box different rescues, shelters, and other pet organizations; and PupJoy donates $2 from every subscription box to the Bissell Pet Foundation, which works with rescues to provide resources for pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping, and foster care. Yay for giving back!

When I contacted customer service the person I was chatting with made me feel like I was incompetent and that it was my own fault for not understanding and reading the very fine print that was smaller than the other wording at the bottom of the page, so needless to say I was very upset. I was not offered a refund and basically, they told me to just deal with it. So I canceled my credit card and went about my way. I did a review of them after the chat and told them why I was upset and what my issue was.

Giving them one star as they did donate a box to our rescue for a prize. But when I asked if they would like to become a rescue partner with us they declined. After asking multiple times why and getting no response, they simply said "not comfortable". We have placed hundreds of dogs in loving homes and not sure what there issue is but not recommending them to any of our adoptees at this time.
