I have been subscribing to BarkBox for about a year after we got our new puppy and we couldn't be happier! Every month we receive the best treats and toys and Jerry is always so excited! Additionally, I love how they reach out about your experience and what works and what isn't. I also appreciate the options to add, upgrade or change items based on your dog's needs/wants, This has been a great experience for us and our pup and we don't have to leave the house! It's like Christmas once a month for our pup! :)
Subscriptions seem to be on autorenew. Right now, I pay for a year at a time. I can't remember if there is an option to pay for a month at a time or not. I am thinking not. Subscribers set up an account and from there, you can cancel if you desire. That option appears to be easy to figure out and not hidden like some autoship companies. The one thing I did not like is not getting a notification of when it was time for my yearly subscription rate being charged to my credit card. It's possible there was an e-mail but if there was, I didn't see it. I realize it is my responsibility to keep track of that. I do not know if it is possible to cancel mid-subscription if, heaven forbid, something would happen to my dog. I have to think it's possible as getting a new BarkBox could be painful shortly after losing a pet.
BarkBox implemented Narvar to give customers clear, precise, and timely updates about their deliveries in a way that simplified the process for the team. Instead of deciphering a wide variety of different statuses from different carriers—each meaning something slightly different—now customers receive one of just three options: just shipped, on its way, or delivered. “Narvar puts everything into one universal template, which makes it much easier for customers to digest and deal with the information,” Snowden says about the current experience. “It removes a lot of the noise.”
The box is extra fun because it has a new surprise theme to keep things fresh each month. If they can’t find something your dog will love that fits the theme, they make it themselves! One of the coolest things is that they have an online store – called BarkShop – where you can order more of what your dog loved in their box. (their product descriptions are hilarious by the way and will keep you entertained for hours).
Claire dislikes: Tbh, I was mildly exasperated by this box. They sent three of the same kind of toy, which was so disappointing because for the same gagging/choking hazard reasons I couldn't give Ruggie the lion toy from the BarkBox, I couldn't give these "iBalls" to her either. The antler I received was so, so small, and while I know Ruggie's a tiny beeb, she still goes to town on her chew toys and was worried she'd swallow it accidentally or something.
Tico likes: I loved the stuffed "pup noodles"! Mom doesn't let me have any real noodles (something about allergies, I don't know what that word means), so this is the closest I could get to the real thing. I even wondered if there were real noodles inside, so just in case, I made sure to destroy the whole thing in under 10 minutes flat. There weren't any noodles.
“Bling has always been our little princess. Barkbox has just made her more royal. It is so amazing to know that someone out there cares for your dog as they take pains to give an apt theme and customize it. We’ve always taken care to feed her high quality products and Barkbox offers much more than satisfaction in this area. They even send hygiene products occasionally which we sometimes re order from the Barkshop.”
Surprise My Pet rounds out our top three best monthly dog box subscription boxes as a newcomer that’s already making a paw print among its competition. Launched in early 2015, Surprise My Pet stands out for its unique features, namely its paw for paw guarantee — if your dog is totally uninterested in one of the products, you can email them, and they’ll send you a replacement item for free.
Worth every single penny. I literally can not say enough amazing things about BarkBox. First of all, and most importantly, my 3 dogs LOVE IT! Secondly, all of the toys are FUN, creative, and durable. You can buy seconds of ones your pup loves and seconds on treats as well. Thirdly! They have this really cool program where if your pup destroys something, you can post the aftermath on any social media, tag #destroyersclub and barkbox will give you credit on barkshop for some new toys!
Not only do the themed monthly boxes start at only $21, but if your pup doesn’t dig something that came in his box, the company will fix it for you according to their Scout’s Honor policy. Although I can personally attest to the fact that you will be making very few calls to Customer Service, as all treats and toys are dog-tested and approved. My 3-year-old Pomeranian never met a BarkBox she didn’t like, and now she’s convinced every package that comes through my apartment door is for her. #Princess.
I was very, very impressed with what was inside. I’ll admit that their prices look a tad more expensive than other boxes but shipping is included, there were a healthy number of products in the box, the products inside were definitely in the high-average category, and every one of the products in the box – both treats AND toys – are made in the USA.
Bonus — If you’re gifting a BarkBox subscription, you can surprise your recipient with a Double Deluxe BarkBox. That means, in their first BarkBox, they’ll get DOUBLE the number of toys, treats, and chews than a regular BarkBox – that’s FOUR toys, FOUR treats, and TWO chews! It’s a one-time $19 upgrade to make a wow-worthy Christmas gift of two boxes worth of dog goodies, followed by regular BarkBoxes for the rest of the subscription. PawPacks ship in the middle of the month, every month! The deadline to place your order to receive a given month’s Pack is the 25th of the month. If you place your first (or any) order between the 15th and the 25th, your first box will ship out within 2-5 business days from the date you have signed up. If you sign up after the 25th, your PawPack will ship out around the middle of the following month. Please note: Shipping information must be changed before the 5th of the month in order to affect that month’s shipment. All address changes made after this date will become effective on the next month’s shipment. If you have to wait a few weeks because you missed the deadline, we have plenty of ways to keep busy with our blog, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages to stay up to date on our adorable PawPack family!
When I contacted customer service the person I was chatting with made me feel like I was incompetent and that it was my own fault for not understanding and reading the very fine print that was smaller than the other wording at the bottom of the page, so needless to say I was very upset. I was not offered a refund and basically, they told me to just deal with it. So I canceled my credit card and went about my way. I did a review of them after the chat and told them why I was upset and what my issue was.
Some days Sutton (Chihuahua mix, 8 pounds, 1 year) has so much puppy energy left over from dog-park play that she just runs around the apartment, digs out all of her toys from the toy bin, and squeaks anything she can find for hours on end. I may be the worst pet parent ever, but all that squeaking can get annoying. So I was happy to discover Hear Doggy ultrasonic squeaker toys, because they use squeakers tuned to an ultrasonic frequency between 24 and 28 KHz that’s silent to people but still makes a fun noise for dogs. To people it sounds like the squeaker died and there’s just a little trapped air being pushed out, but apparently to a dog it still sounds like their favorite toy. Sutton gets just as excited when squeaking this thing as she does her traditional squeakers—fun times for her and a lifesaver for my ears.
The Sprong feels soft and bounces and squeaks, and it’s one of the only toys that have consistently kept the attention of my dogs (Ziggy and Lily, Chihuahua mixes, 11 and 12 pounds, 2 and 7 years, respectively). Other toys get shredded or elicit only a mild wag after a few weeks, but because the Sprong has no enticing stuffing to rip out and bounces in an irregular manner, it keeps the little pups on their toes. My toddler also steals the Sprong—all doggie toys are toddler toys. But big dogs, beware: The Sprong’s individual nubs are Chihuahua resistant (our pups have had the same Sprong for five years now), but they may not stand up to the stronger jaws of larger dogs.
With 500,000 subscribers to its delivery service and over 4 million fans on Facebook and Instagram, BarkBox’s social media team creates original video content and shares relatable memes with its followers in order to remind them of the emotional connection humans have with their furry friends. “We use mission-based marketing at an ambition-based company,” said CMO Jay Livingston, who joined Bark from Bank of America this July. “By not holding our social team to reach sales requirements, we give them an environment to create entertaining content to reach our highly engaged audience.”

For example, let’s suppose that simple “how to” customer queries account for a large portion of your support interactions. These features allow you to handle these “high-touch low-value” queries efficiently by leveraging on automation (i.e. bots) to create predictable workflows. Through Zendesk Message, you can then define key scenarios when a query becomes too complex for a bot to handle, to trigger a “hand off” to a trained human agent to resolve. This automation and bot-to-human handover system frees your agents to solve the toughest customer problems and offer actionable support.
