I ordered Barkbox when they were having their $5 promotion. When we got the box, my dogs liked the treats, but destroyed the toys in less than an hour. For $5, I wasn't complaining. Before I could cancel (only days after I received my first box) they charged my card $25. I called and expressed how unhappy I was with the box, and I no longer wanted to receive them. They would not refund my money. I just got my second box that I paid for weeks ago, and it's the same deal. They like the treats, but I can go buy better toys from Walmart for less. I was told it would be cancelled after this box, and I really hope that's the case. It's not worth $25...

Thinking that maybe I needed to communicate dog to dog, I had my 4 Goldens and 1 Pyr (all rescues) send a personal plea to please get the box right, because their mom was threatening to cancel their subscription and buy their toys in other places. Again, received a cute email response (not nearly as cute as the email my 5 sent) basically saying we were wrong (really? It takes a month to ship something in the United States? And I have a transcript of the previous chat that specified what my BarkBox was supposed to contain, which it did not?!?)...and promises to make things better. THEN, literally 3 days later, another email was received about the glitch in their distribution center and OH - replacement items are now out of stock!
Like several corporate replies to others' reviews, I also have been informed by corporate that a "hiccup in the warehouse" is delaying August orders. Zero information was provided by the company up front to explain this problem. I attempted a chat with customer service last week only to discover that there is no chat. I had to leave a message, which wasn't returned. Then I emailed customer service about an ETA. That prompted a corporate reply with the as-now-standard "hiccup in the warehouse" explanation. I was told our August box is "still on the way." That doesn't answer my ETA question.

In November, Bark released its first major TV spot; airing on more than 25 networks including Animal Planet, Freeform and Lifetime, the 30-second spot was largely inspired by the user generated content that appears on social media feeds. They not only are making sure the box ships on time now, they’re sending the next box free AND including an extra toy. I was so impressed with their customer service and their determination to make things right that I signed up for a 2nd box each month for my grandson’s dog, Gatsby. We are now loyal Bark Box customers.
The company was launched in 2011, and after merely two years of being in business, it realizes over one million dollars in revenues every month. I subscribed to Barkbox last Dec and continued it for 3 months. I have a chihuahua who loves treats, but I don’t feed her treats in such large quantities. My boxes always included some sort of sausage bar which she loved, about 2-3 large bags of treats and 1-2 toys. The treats were too much; in fact, we still have a few bags despite cancelling a few months ago. The “squeaky” toys were ok, but they were pretty cheap and didn’t last. For the monthly cost of the box, “we” were better off saving the $$$ and applying it to better toys and treats in smaller quantities. I can see this box being better for consumers with larger pets since they eat much more than a chihuahua. Every 5 lbs a dog gains is equivalent to a human gaining 20!! If we fed our beloved pet “all” the treats they were sending, she’d turn into a chunky monkey and it would be very unhealthy for her. So, the box, in my humble opinion, is better for larger dogs who can eat more treats with less repercussions.
It is nice to have the bark box come each month, both for the dog and its owners as I feel like we all sit around to read the theme and analyze the toys and treats. Sometimes the toys are a little redundant and the treats may not always be ones you approve of, but overall the experience is pretty solid. I do wish they had an option where you wouldn't receive toys that squeek. His favorite toy to date is the Bison!
Some days Sutton (Chihuahua mix, 8 pounds, 1 year) has so much puppy energy left over from dog-park play that she just runs around the apartment, digs out all of her toys from the toy bin, and squeaks anything she can find for hours on end. I may be the worst pet parent ever, but all that squeaking can get annoying. So I was happy to discover Hear Doggy ultrasonic squeaker toys, because they use squeakers tuned to an ultrasonic frequency between 24 and 28 KHz that’s silent to people but still makes a fun noise for dogs. To people it sounds like the squeaker died and there’s just a little trapped air being pushed out, but apparently to a dog it still sounds like their favorite toy. Sutton gets just as excited when squeaking this thing as she does her traditional squeakers—fun times for her and a lifesaver for my ears.

I've always wanted to try a subscription for my pups but I'm a bit ashamed that this was my first experience. BarkBox was good but had major hits and misses. I have giant, playful, strong dogs and though this was indicated, I don't feel as though any size consideration is evaluated when selecting toys for the boxes. I do like that they always came with two toys because it meant each dog had 15 minutes of play time before I had to wrestle their jaws open to dig out the stuffing and bits of squeakers they were about to ingest. The treats have been great! They especially loved the apple cider treats that started to ferment when left in a cookie jar and made all their other treats reek of beer. As a consumer that willingly signed up for the box and entered my debit card information freely, I should have read more in-depth. I did not know that when you terminate your subscription that you will continue to be charged until you reach the year mark of signing up. For me it meant 9 more months of money that was to be taken out of my account had I not caught it. I like true month to month boxes where a cancellation is immediate and I wish they had made their rather off-kilter ways of charging and processing more visible. I can think of some major changes that they could make but ultimately some of the blame rests on me for not reading better. I know my pups will be sad as they've grown accustomed to their box but I can buy more durable and healthy big dog treats for just a little more money and I know it would be more worth it.
The boxes are themed around the relevant holidays and the packaging itself is made to look like a gift with a bow and to/from tag on the design so it is a nice option for those looking to give as a present to other pups. The box we tested (prior to The Gift Box owning it) had two types of treats (that were both American made) two toys and a scented candle for masking pet smells.
I have a yellow lab named Lola. I signed up for bark box and have never been disappointed with anything that the service has to offer. In the three boxes that we have gotten thus far, there have been some toys that Lola won’t play with. When I called bark box, they sent replacement toys for Lola, and asked that I donate the other toys to a shelter. I have nothing but praise for this company. Anyone thinking about signing up for this service, remember this, you just can’t go wrong with bark box.

I pay approximately $18 a month for the box. It is worth it to see how excited my dog gets when the box arrives. Her nose is right in there when I open it. She has never received a treat she didn't like. One time, we received cleaning cloths to wipe off muddy feet. She didn't like them so much . . . . the treats and toys are way more popular around here.
I was dubious that we really needed yet another plush toy, but after Gus (Chihuahua-poodle mix, 18 pounds, 18 months) loved playing with the Outward Hound Hide A Squirrel at a friend’s place, I had to get one. He typically has trouble paying attention to squeaky toys for more than a few minutes at a time, but the more challenging setup of three squeaky squirrels in a tree-trunk-shaped pouch will keep him going for hours. He fishes squirrels out, then runs around like crazy with whichever one is left in his mouth last. I can send the next one sailing the moment he’s back with the first, making it easy to tire him out. He also loves to chew on and shake the tree stump. The pieces are relatively tough too: After three months of near-daily playing, I have yet to do any mending to sew up holes (your mileage may vary—it’s still a plush toy).

The study also polled dog people about taking photos of their pup, and found that 20 percent of the pictures they take on their phone are of their dog – more than trips or vacations (15%), themselves (11%) or food (6%).
